Markus Jalmerot – Founder of SEO Specialist
Markus Jalmerot is an SEO Specialist with over 8 years experience in search engine optimisation. Before launching SEO Specialist Limited in London, Markus Jalmerot has worked for SEO agencies, major affiliate websites, and leading on-line marketing corporations in Sweden, Denmark, Cyprus and the UK.
How did you get into SEO?
I started to create websites during my university studies in Lund, Sweden.
Back in 2000, we had access to 100 MBit broadband connection and it was easy to practice and discover more about SEO in this environment. During this time I created hundreds of websites and paid for part of my university studies through SEO and Adsense (Googles advertising programme).
What was your first official SEO job?
After graduating from Lund University with an MSc in International Finance, I took a part time job within a Swedish newspaper group, MKF. In a few months, search engine traffic to their main websites increased by over 100 %.
Which other SEO jobs have you had?
I was CTO (Chief Technical Officer) at Eastpoint, later renamed Getupdated, which remains one of Scandinavia’s largest search marketing companies. I was responsible for their launch in the UK, and later merger with Just Search.
I was later appointed SEO Manager at Outrider in Denmark, a WPP company and later became Head of SEO for a number of leading poker websites based in Cyprus.
Which of your own websites can you tell us about?
The sites I decided to work with are ranking top of their industry. Some examples include:
- Lokaler.nu – #1 commercial property website in Scandinavia.
- ForexTrading.se – #1 currency trading website in Sweden.
- SEOHosting.co.uk – Created the site and got it to rank well within 3 months, but has since sold the domain property.
