45. Link Building Conclusion

Conclusions link building
There is many reasons why backlinks matter. Today, incoming links is the most important voting mechanism among search engines. Perhaps no surprise, since links from other websites can be seen as a signal of trust and quality. Without links, you are nobody. With many high quality links pointing to your site, you might become #1 in your industry.

The most common types of backlinks

If you succeed attracting natural backlinks,  your chances of being found in top of search engines increase heavily. For companies failing to get natural links, many try to make some kind of link baits or viral content instead.

Other possible options to obtain links is by submitting to relevant link directories, article directories if you have something interesting to say, CSS galleries if you have a web design that stands out or by doing guest posts on websites and blogs with similar visitors.

Many webmasters try to do link exchanges. Depending on the method and if it’s on a small scale, it might be a good method. But to go for two-way links on a larger scale is not considered to be a sustainable or acceptable link building method according to major search engine guidelines.

What’s definitely not acceptable is to buy links in hope of getting higher Pagerank and more link power. Search engines use both algorithmic methods to detect paid links, and manual reports from webmasters. If it appears that you have purchased links, it’s possible that you will be completely banned from appearing in Google’s, Yahoo’s and Bing’s search results.

Among the legitimate and suggested methods of getting relevant links you find press release optimisation. When you have a new or service product to announce, winning awards or new partnership, there are few methods that can beat the power of a targeted press release sent out to the right media. Hopefully, you get mentioned in some business magazine or newspaper and might be able to see a spike in traffic and inbound links.

The need of continuous getting new backlinks

Search engine optimisation and backlinks in particular is not something you do once in a lifetime and then forget about it. You need to participate in what’s going on right now, update your website and continuously trying to get new incoming links to your website. Your site basically needs to proof that it’s relevant, updated and deserved to rank in the top. Without new links, it might even loose ranking. But if you keep getting new backlinks from relevant and trusted websites, your own website ranking is likely to improve.

So make sure to make your SEO and link building efforts and integrated part of your marketing strategy and not something you only look at once a year.
